Mohammed George successful in libel action against The Sun newspaper

Simons Muirhead & Burton solicitors announced at the beginning of April that their client Mohammed George, best known for his performances in Eastenders as Gus, the sensitive road sweeper, was successful in his bitterly contested libel claim against the Sun newspaper. A High Court jury awarded Mr George £75,000 damages for a false story concerning allegations of violence towards his girlfriend.
Mr George’s legal action was funded under a CFA backed by an after the event insurance policy obtained from Temple. David Pipkin, director at Temple met with the successful claimant recently and Mr George confirmed that without Temple’s insurance support it would have been difficult to contemplate taking on a multinational media group with virtually unlimited resources
